MSP Celebrates 60 Years of Missionary Presence and Service

“The MSP is already in its senior years and no longer in its adolescence,” reflected His Eminence, Orlando Cardinal Quevedo, OMI, in his homily during the Thanksgiving Mass for the 60th Founding Anniversary of the Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP). “Many things have already happened, and we have to learn from them,” he added, inviting the faithful to look back with gratitude and forward with renewed purpose.

The Eucharistic Celebration, held on November 21, 2025, at the MSP Seminary in Tagaytay, was presided over by Cardinal Quevedo, Archbishop Emeritus of Cotabato. He was joined by three other bishops, Most Rev. Reynaldo B. Getalado, MSP, D.D., Bishop of Rarotonga, Cook Islands; Most Rev. Edwin A. Dela Peña, MSP, D.D., Prelate of Marawi; Most Rev. Pedro D. Arigo, D.D., Bishop Emeritus of Puerto Princesa, Palawan; together with members of the MSP clergy and some guest priests.

The Thanksgiving Mass served as the culmination of a year-long celebration marking six decades of the Society’s missionary life and service. The anniversary festivities formally began on April 21, 2024, with the launching and opening rites held at the MSP Seminary in Tayud, Consolacion, Cebu—the birthplace of the Society.

Throughout the jubilee year, a series of significant events highlighted the richness of the MSP’s history and mission. These included a Dinner and Concert for a Cause, the diaconal ordination of Rev. Benchley B. Pusing, MSP, a “60 Years Tribute” celebration in Cebu, the Annual Clergy Retreat, and the MSP Feast Day.

As the Mission Society of the Philippines marks this milestone, it stands as a testament to God’s enduring grace and the faithful response of generations of missionaries. Rooted in its history and inspired by its mission, the MSP continues to move forward with hope, committed to proclaiming the Gospel to all nations.
